Bismillah.
Assalamualaikum wrt.
This is a random rambling. But it won't be long I promise. So just bear with me for a few minutes, okay?
So often we meet with these ayah in Quran :-
Dan apabila hamba-hamba-Ku bertanya kepadamu tentang “Aku” maka (ketahuilah) bahwasanya Aku adalah dekat. Aku mengabulkan permohonan orang yang berdo’a apabila berdo’a kepada-Ku, maka hendaklah mereka itu memenuhi (segala perintah-Ku) dan hendaklah mereka itu beriman kepada-Ku, agar mereka selalu berada dalam kebenaran ( Al Baqarah: 186)
Dan sesungguhnya Kami telah menciptakan manusia dan mengetahui apa yang dibisikkan oleh hatinya dan Kami lebih dekat dari pada urat lehernya (Al Qaaf:16)
From the above mentioned ayah, Allah had told us that He is near. He listens to us. Even that which is whispered only in the heart and not verbalised for others to hear. So directly He is telling us to seek him in every thing we do. Because He will be the first to know of any mishap, any victory, any losses, any gains that we have.
Have you ever feel happiness when making dua? Or feel happy when your dua is fulfilled?
I used to feel nothing when making dua. Perhaps because I don't think my dua will be answered, not because He doesn't listen, or that He has no time for it; but it's because I feel that the sins I've committed prevented my dua from being fulfilled.
That is where I was wrong. You have to make dua, and you must feel that your dua will be answered, only then, you start making dua with all your heart. And then, only then, you look forward to have your own little private conversation with Allah. You will feel like there is hope. Even when it is not fulfilled, you know that He might postponed it for a while because after all, He has a greater plan for you, and that He knows what's best for you. You kind of feel this interaction going on between you and Allah. This closeness.

You see, even when you don't make dua, Allah is going to give you what He has written for you. For example, you have an examination in the evening and if Allah wills, you get a 5. Even when you didn't make dua.
But if you made a dua earlier, and you get a 5, you will feel a sudden rush of happiness knowing that Allah had listen and he had fulfilled your dua.
See, same result, but difference in amal. Knowing that Allah does not judge a person by his/her result, but only by his/her amal, would surely drive us to keep making good amal.
May Allah make us among those who often make dua. And May Allah reward us jannah for that, insyaAllah.
